DNA* DNA match with 2-great grandchild, 27 cM, 2 segments; and another 2-great grandchild, 11 cM, 1 segment.
Research Note* The family of Mahulda Garner is inconsistent in the census records: in 1850 she is apparently widowed and living with three children, Mary (listed as Grubb but Garner in 1860), age 8, David, age 4 and Empsey (f) age 8/12. In 1860 she is remarried to John H. Austin and is listed with daughter Mary Garner, and children James Austin, age 10, Richard age 8, Mary age 6, and Bettie age 4. By 1870, James is no longer listed and the eldest child is Emma, age 19. Could this be the same person as "Empsie" in the 1850 census? Emma's death certificate shows date of birth as 24 June 1850, while the enumeration is dated November 1850. Was this the same person as listed as James in 1860? Neither Mary nor Betty from the 1860 census appear in 1870, but added are John Austin (bc 1856) and Thomas (bc 1858) of about the same ages as Mary and Betty. John and Thomas' death records both show their parents as John Austin and Huldah Garner.3
