OAK HILL — James Edward Elder, 82, of Oak Hill, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division.

He was born March 13, 1923, at Sanger, the son of the late William Edward and Hessie Carle Burgess Elder.

Mr. Elder was a retired serviceman for Sears and a former coal miner. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie L. Elder and Bobby Lee Elder.

Survivors include two daughters, Michelle Gwinn of Fayetteville and Jeannie Smith of Oak Hill; a son, Randy Elder of Oak Hill; four brothers, Donald C. “Butch” Elder and Everette J. Elder, both of Oak Hill, and Lawrence G. Elder and Franklin D. Elder, both of Florida; two sisters, Charlotte I. Shuff and Betty A. Merritt, both of Oak Hill; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside service and committal service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville, with military graveside rites by VFW Post No. 3110, Oak Hill. The Rev. Bill Drennen will officiate. Burial will follow.

Born November 3, 1928 in Sanger, She was the Daughter of the late Edward and Hessie "Burgess" Elder. Charlotte was an active member of the Rock Lick Community Church and a Homemaker

She was preceded in death by Her Husband Charles Shuff in 2006, and Her Loving Granddaughter Darcy Shuff June 13, 2018, Her Brothers Franklin, Lawrence, Willie, and Bob Elder.
She is survived by her Son George Shuff of Minden, Sister Betty Merritt and Brothers Donald "Butch", and Gene Elder.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday June 21, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Hill, with Rev. Harry Fuller officiating. Visitation will be noon till 1:00 PM Thursday. Burial will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Oak Hill.6
