"Robert G. (Bob) Miller died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, Illinois. He was born on August 7, 1922 to Charles and Julie (Morris) Miller in Wray, Colorado. He was raised in St. Albans, West Virginia. He served in the US Army for 31 years, rising to the rank of Lt. Colonel. He joined the National Guard in 1940 and was stationed in Panama when WW II started. He went through OCS, and finished the was a a Lieutenant, became part of the regular Army, and rose to the rank of colonel in 1961. During the war he served in the Mediterranean Theater (North Africa and Italy), and participated in the occupation of Trieste. He also served in Korea in 1953 and an advisor in Vietnam from 1959 ? 1960. During his service, he earned a BS in History from Kansas State in 1958 and a MA in History in 1964. He participated in many service training opportunities, was airborne and ranger qualified, and attended the Army command and General Staff College. In 1964, he served as Chief historian of CINCPAC. In 1967, he took the position of Professor of Military Science at Knox, which he held until he retired in 1971. Amongst the many commendations and theater service medals he received, he also received the Meritorious Service Medal. He later sold and taught Dale Carnegie courses and was in real estate sales. He married Patricia Collins, and then married Carolyn Wilson, July 1, 1973. Surviving is his wife, Carolyn, three sons, Lee (Mary Lou) Miller, Hagerstown, Maryland, Gary (Debbie) Miller, Antonito, Texas, Greg (Lynn) Miller, Fredericksburg, Virginia and one daughter, Jayne (Randy) Wiss, of Rapid City, South Dakota; twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, three brothers, and one grandchild. Cremation rites will be accorded. There will be no services. Memorials may be made to the Harry Philblad American Legion Post #749, Knoxville, Illinois or of the Donor?s Choice. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes, Knoxville, Illinois in charge of arrangements. Maggie Rayner, age 90, a long-time resident of Riverside, CA, passed away peacefully November 29, 2013. Maggie was born in Long Beach, CA, but grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. She married Clyde "Cloude" Rayner in 1955 and moved back to California. Maggie was a secretary with the Riverside Unified School District and retired after 25 years of service, where she had many friends. Maggie is survived by daughter, Sue Badham with son-in-law Clay Badham of Forest Falls, CA; son John Rayner with daughter-in-law Kathi Rayner of Boise, ID, and step-son Steven Rayner with daughter-in-law Maureen Rayner, of Las Vegas, Nevada. Maggie was the grandmother of three, and had three great-grandchildren.
