She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Summers McClung, and three brothers, Bobby Lee Burgess, A. Leon Burgess and Donald C. Burgess.

Born June 4, 1927, at Fayetteville, WV, he was the son of the late Frank F. McClung and Edith Virginia Henley McClung Cahoon.

Ray began his employment for the N.R. and P Stores at Minden in 1948 and worked at other area stores as well for 10 years. In 1958 he began a 31-year career with Lance Inc. working the Oak Hill territory until his retirement in 1989.

Having received a call to preach in 1973, Rev. McClung was the former pastor of the Bethel Baptist Church at Midway for over seven years then served as pulpit supply for the Oak Hill Baptist Church for the next five years before becoming the Pastor of the Minden Missionary Baptist Church.

He also served as Chaplain for Hidden Valley Healthcare and Plateau Medical Center. He was a member of the Fayette Plateau Ministerial Association, the Fayette Baptist Men’s Association and a Board member for the Fayette County Emergency Food Assistance Center.

Mr. McClung was a member of the Oak Hill Lodge No. 120 A.F. and A.M., Sewell Chapter No. 24 R.A.M., and the Mount Hope Commandery No. 22 K.T.

Being interested in local history and genealogy he wrote his family genealogy, an autobiography, a book titled Baptist Beginning in Minden - 75 Year History of the Minden Baptist Church, a Minden, WV, history and a book containing a compilation of his monthly Fayette Tribune column “Spiritual Meanderings.”

His stepfather, Earl T. Cahoon, and a brother, Bernard “Moe” McClung, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Mae Burgess McClung, whom he married on April 3, 1953, one sister, Audrey Young of Oak Hill, WV; his twin brother, Russell McClung and wife, Polly Joe, of Fayetteville, WV; and by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. today at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill.

Services will be 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at Oak Hill Baptist Church with Rev. David White officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, with Masonic graveside rites.

Georgia Fain Miller


Georgia Fain Miller, 94, died peacefully on Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, at Cedar Ridge Center in Sissonville. She was the eldest child of George and Iva Kes-sler Fain.

Georgia attended New River State College in Montgomery before marrying William C. Miller. She was a homemaker and an artist as well as an active member of the Summersville Presbyterian Church and the Garden Club.

In addition to her parents, Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Margaret Louise Eshelman, son, William C. II, and son, Fain, as well as sister, Mallie McClung, and brothers, Marshall Fain, Virgil Fain, Jerry Fain, and Gordon Fain.

She is survived by son-in-law, Roger Eshelman; daughter-in-law, Betsy Miller; grandchildren, Matthew Eshelman and Tammy, Betsy Riopelle and husband, Brian, Andrew Eshelman and wife, Michelle, Jessica Miller, and Will Miller, and great-grandchildren, Fain, Kyle, and Kate Riopelle and Wesley and Walker Eshelman.

She is also survived by her sister, Sarah Wolz, brothers, Harold Fain and wife, Alice, John Fain and wife, Toby; sister-in-law, Nola Propst Fain, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at White Funeral Home in Summersville with the Rev. Huston Boothe officiating. Visitors may call one hour before the service and burial will follow in Walker Memorial Cemetery.

Georgia will be missed by those who are left to mourn her, but we find comfort in knowing that Bill, Georgie, Lou, Billy, and Fain are together again.

NUTTERVILLE — Don O. Nutter, 75, passed away Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, following a long illness.

He was born Dec. 22, 1930, at Winona, W.Va; he was a son of the late Delbert and Maggie McClung Nutter.

Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend; he will be greatly missed.

He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean Conflict, being stationed in Bomburg, Germany. He was a disabled coal miner, a member of UMWA and a member of Nutterville Apostolic Church of Nutterville.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brian Anderson Nutter; a granddaughter, Emily Amick; and a brother, Van Nutter.

He is survived by his wife, Elma, of 54 years; children, Jeanie and Frank Slusser, Donna Mae and Bill Pence, Kathy and Sam Boley, Sheila and Jimmy Amick, Rodney D. and Nancy Nutter, Wesley D. and Robin Nutter, Shawn and Cynthia Nutter, all of Nutterville; two sisters, Hope and Glen Orndorff of Carl, and Brenda and Mike Bicknell of Winfield, Ohio; two brothers, Dan and Betty Nutter of Canvas, and Jack and Paula Nutter of Wintersville, Ohio; 22 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with the Rev. Richard Keener and the Rev. Carl Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Sugar Grove, W.Va. Graveside Military rites will be held by the VFW of Ansted and Gauley Bridge.

Mary Kathleen Lares Stover, 93, of Bradley, passed away in her home Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006.

Born March 9, 1912, at Terry, she was the daughter of the late Peter Lares and the late Margaret Susan Taylor Lares.

Mary was a member of the Bradley Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Ira S. Stover; four brothers, Edward “Moon” Lares, Elbert Lares, Albert Lares, Raymond “Skippy” Lares; four sisters, Mamie Lee, Christina Bellamy, Margaret Ballard Jarrell, Hazel McLerran.

Those left to cherish her memory include a foster son, Robert Cantley of Michigan; sister, Ruth Perry of Ironton, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Jessie Lares of Naoma, and Bessie Lares of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Thanita White, daughter of the late John Lowe and Emma Johnson Lowe, 74, of Wellington, Spring Hill, Fla., formerly of Beckley, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006, at home, under the care of Hospice and her family.

She was born in Cannelton, W.Va., and came here about two years ago from Charleston, W.Va. She graduated in 1949 from Stratton High School, Beckley. She was baptized and received the Holy Ghost at an early age; she was Apostolic by faith and a member of The Nondenominational Fellowship Temple in Charleston. She was a homemaker who loved caring for her home and family. She enjoyed bowling, traveling, laughter, life and spending time with her family and friends.

Preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Thomas White; daughters, Janice English, Michelle White; and other loved ones.

She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Hairston of The Wellington, Spring Hill, Fla; two sons, Thomas and his wife, Linda White of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Roger and his wife, Agnes White of Seattle, Wash; stepdaughter, Lelia Tinsley of Baltimore, Md; two brothers, James Lowe of Washington, Pa., and Harold Burks of Newark, N.J; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews, loved ones and friends.

Friends will be received on Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Free and Independent Holiness Church, Beckley. A celebration of her life will begin at 3 p.m., officiated by Bishop Joseph Thomas and Bishop Ernest Stewart. Thanita will be laid to rest beside her husband at Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley, following the service.

Clifton M. Williams


Clifton M. Williams, 75, of Southside, Hinton, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital, at Roanoke, Va., following a long illness.

Born Nov. 8, 1930, at Hinton, he was the son of the late Rufus Clyde and Lura Moten Williams.

Clifton was retired from the United States Defense Department where he worked as a Quality Control Inspector and was a Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman and loved his children and grandchildren with all his heart.

Preceded in death by his loving wife, Olean Marie Bragg Williams; three brothers, Arthur (Creasy), Andrew (Wesley) and Russell (Jennings) Williams; and a sister, Donzella Groy.

Survived by two sons, Wesley D. Williams and wife, Mona, of Roanoke, Va., and Jeffery A. Williams and wife, Brenda, of Salem, Va; and three grandchildren, Jennifer, Joshua and Stephanie Williams.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Donald L. Hannah officiating. Burial will follow in the Frazier Cemetery near Hinton.

Geneva Louise Williiams, 74, of Beckley passed away Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006.

Born Jan. 24, 1932, in Sherndal, Ky., she was the daughter of the late James Harmon Reed and the late Edith Callahan Reed.

Geneva was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Geneva was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Reed.
