Marriage* | 17 Dec 1826 | He married Susannah Dozier at Greenbrier Co, VA, on 17 Dec 1826. |
Biography* | In 1835, William Hughart, of Greenbrier County, bought 306 acres on Wolf Pen Creek and Rattlesnake Spring Branch adjoining Daniel Dozier's property. The same year, he sold the place to Samuel Perkins and Adam Nicely, who lived there until the 1850s. The farm of Samuel Perkins lay between those of Nicely and Dozier. It became the central part of the Old Poor Farm forty years later. The tall log house which still stands there near where the old Bluestone Road (as well as the later Giles, Fayette and Kanawha Turnpike) crossed Wolf Creek, is on the Perkins farm. Margaret, daughter of Samuel and Susan Perkins and wife of George Rooks Huddleston, was born in this log building in 1837. Perkins kept a tavern there, and it was a stopping place for stagecoaches. The Perkins burial ground is on the low hill to the north of the tavern, while the Poor Farm cemetery is across the road to the west. [photo included]2 [L.
