Born on Nov. 5, 1926, on Little Sewell Mountain in Greenbrier County, he was the last of the William Charles and Mavis Surbaugh Church family.
Mr. Church was retired from the United States Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant. He served his country during World War II, the Berlin Airlift, the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. His service spanned a 28 year period.
In addition to his proud time in the Air Force, he enjoyed working with his cattle. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Quinwood, Rainelle VFW Post 4484, the American Legion and the Berlin Airlift Veterans Organization.
In addition to his parents, one brother and two sisters, he was preceded in death by his son, Charles K. Church Jr. and his daughter, Gay Lynn Anderson.
Survivors include his stepson, Dennis Sisk of San Antonio, Texas; granddaughter, Carol Howlett of Holiday, Fla; grandson, Tim Anderson of Amarillo, Texas; step grandson, Dustin Sisk of San Antonio; seven great-grandchildren, and longtime companion, Jo Ann O’Dell.
Service and entombment will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2008, in the Wallace Memorial Mausoleum at Clintonville with the Rev. Houston Boothe and the Rev. Billy Floyd officiating.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the mausoleum.

Funeral services for Mrs. Delilah Etter, mother of the late O.C. Etter, of Casa Grande, were held in Phoenix Sunday morning at ten o'clock. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery in Casa Grande at 2:00 p.m.
Mrs. Etter was 86 years old and had been in feeble health for a number of years. She was born in Alderson, West Virginia on June 12, 1855.
In recent years she lived in Casa Grande with her son, until his death early last summer. She had many friends here who affectionately called her "Grandma Etter."
She is survived by two sons, Edward Etter, of Phoenix, and Arthur, of Casa Grande, besides her daughter-in-law, Mrs. O.C. Etter and granddaughter, Mrs. Ruby Wilcox, who live here. Mr. and Mrs. William Matthon (the latter is a niece), of Phoenix, attended the funeral. Relatives were unable to contact Mr. Edward Etter, who was enroute to the eastern part of the country at the time of his mother's death.1,6 |

Sudden Death Comes As Shock To Many Friends In Community
Funeral services for O. C. Etter, prominent Casa Grande businessman who passed away suddenly from a heart attack Wednesday afternoon, will be held at the Fisher Memorial Chapel at 2:30 this afternoon. Services will be conducted by Rev. Thomas Hughes, pastor of the Southern Methodist church of Phoenix, assisted by Mrs. Marie Patch, pastor of the Endeavor Full Gospel Mission oT Casa Grande. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery.
Mr. Etter, whose death came as a shock to the entire community, had been ailing with thrombosis since return from a trip to Morenci two weeks ago, when he and Mrs. Etter had visited the latter's brother, Harry Anderson. They had planned an extended vacation following their return from Morenci, but it was deferred because of Mr. Etter's illness which had developed the day following their return. He had been advised by his physician to take a month's complete rest, but his condition was not considered critical. A few moments prior to death he had been reading the mail and was in apparently good spirits, and the fatal stroke came with unexpected suddenness while his brother, Arthur, who was visiting with him, was absent from the room attending a brief chore in the yard.
Mr. Etter was a native of Nuttalburg, W. Va, where in his early manhood he was engaged in building construction, a trade he followed until alter he came to Casa Grande 21 years ago.
In 1912 he married Miss Maude Anderson at Summerville, Mo. A year after coming to Casa Grande Mr. and Mrs. Etter opened the Etter barber shop on Main street, which he operated till his death; and during recent years he also acquired and operated a farm near Casa Grande, which was only recently sold.
He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge and of the Christian church, was always an active supporter of worthy community enterprises and philanthropies, and numbered the entire population among his friends.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Maude Etter; his mother, Mrs. D.I. Etter, of Phoenix, two brothers, Ed and Arthur Etter, of Phoenix, and his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gail Wilcox, of Casa Grande, besides other relatives.
Among those who are present for the funeral are, in addition to those named, Mrs. Grace Wilcox. of Hayden Jct., and Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Mitchell, cousins, from Tucson.7 |

Funeral services were held today at 10 a.m. in Cole and Maud Chapel for Mrs. Maud Etter, who died Thursday in a Glendale (Ariz.) rest home.
Mrs. Etter was born Dec. 19, 1891 in Missouri. She had been a resident of Casa Grande for 45 years prior to moving to Glendaie some four and a half years ago.
She is survived by her sisters, Nellie Eastep, of Vancouver, Washington, Lucille Pavleteich, of Maxwell, New Mexico, Pearl Henry, of Washington, Kansas, and Gertrude Lowe, of Liberal, Kansas; her brothers, Henry and Bert Anderson, both of Portland, Oregon, and Delmer Anderson, of Vancouver, Washington.

Rice was born Feb. 13, 1906, in Grenola, to Ida (Edwards) and Miles C. Burdette. She attended Wolf Creek School through eighth grade and graduated from Grenola High School. She also attended Pittsburg Teachers College and taught all eight grades in a rural school.
On Nov. 26, 1925, she married Bert H. Rice in Columbus. The Rices lived in Pittsburg, Joplin, Mo., and Independence before moving to Coffeyville in 1932. For 25 years she was employed by Baden's Grocery Store and Litwin's Ready to Wear store.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the American Association of Retired Persons, both of Coffeyville.
Her husband died March 21, 1971. A daughter, Peggy, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Jones, Coffeyville; a son, Bill Rice, Lee's Summit, Mo; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.1 |
