James Skaggs1 (M)

Biography* James Skaggs had a land grant from the Commonwealth of Virginia for 3000 acres more or less in Fayette Co. (now West Virginia), in and around Anstead, Victor, and Sugar Creek. He was appointed Magistrate by the Commonwealth of Virginia andheld court and collected taxes in this area. Land was valued at 58c per acre. He helped to organize the Hopewell Baptist Church in either 1818 or 1820. [from Descendants of Thomas Skaggs, by Earl N. Skaggs, p. 26].
