He married Evelyn "Eva" Mae McCue in Fayette Co, WV, 3 April 1901.⁽⁸³⁶⁾ Evelyn was born 1 April 1879.⁽⁸³⁷⁾ Evelyn was the daughter of William D. McCue and Elizabeth J. Cottle. Evelyn died 19 July 1950 at 71 years of age.⁽⁸³⁸⁾

Conflicting evidence states that Emerson was born 19 May 1880.⁽⁸³⁹⁾

She married Malcum Akers.⁽⁸⁴²⁾ She married Lawrence Clad Chapman in Sullivan Co, TN, 27 August 1935.⁽⁸⁴³⁾ Lawrence was born in Smyth Co, VA 6 December 1911.⁽⁸⁴⁴⁾ Lawrence died 20 March 1968 in Roanoke, VA, at 56 years of age.⁽⁸⁴⁵⁾
