He married Martha S. Hamilton in Fayette Co, WV, 27 February 1872.⁽⁵⁹⁹⁾ John Jr, age 18, single, b. Fayette Co, par. John and Mary; Martha S., age 20, single, b. Botetourt Co, VA, par. Peachy and Ann L.

Martha was born in Botetourt Co, VA 30 June 1851.⁽⁶⁰⁰⁾ Martha died 30 May 1900 at 48 years of age.⁽⁶⁰¹⁾ Her body was interred in Kincaid, Fayette Co, WV, Kincaid Cemetery.

He was listed as a resident in the census report in Fayette Co, VA, 1860. He was listed as a resident in the census report in Falls of Kanawha Twp, Fayette Co, WV, 1870.⁽⁶⁰²⁾
