1768, Aug. Prince Edward Co., VA Deed Book 3, p. 425: Benedict Alderson of Lunenburg Co. and John Cole and wife Anne of Prince Edward Co. to Joseph Motley of Amelia Co. 400 acres on Dahons(?) Creek bounded by Joniah Whitlock, Matthew Jackson, William Carter, Peter David, and George Moore, "the above said land the above John Cole purchased of Thomas Watkins", no witnesses. This seems to indicate that Benedict Alderson whose name comes first was actually the owner of the land and that John Cole and wife Anne who originally held the land, are agreeing to the sale. I may be reading too much into this but I would guess that John Cole gave the land to son-in-law Benedict Alderson but that deed was never recorded--hence both names on this deed, dated August 1768.
