Comp. C, CSA." Thereafter sent to the Atheneum Prison in Wheeling, (W)VA on 10 May 1863, described as "age 40, 5ft, 4 1/4 inches tall, dark complexion, dark eyes, dark hair, occupation farmer, residence Alleghany Co, VA." He was sent to Camp Chase, OH on 11 May 1863, and received at Camp Chase on 12 May 1863. On 28 May 1863, James was released, and no further records of him exist. He never returned home.
