Elva Franklin “Pootsie” Ayers, 77 of Sandstone, died Wednesday May 13, 2015 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley following a long illness.

Born August 26, 1937 in Summers County, he was the son of the late Elva Howard and Roxie Burdette Ayers.

Elva was a retired school bus driver for the Summers County Board of Education serving 29 years. He also farmed the Ayers Family farm on Swell Mountain where he lived most of his life.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Ward Goff and a granddaughter, Erika Goff Goad.

He is survived by his children, Larry Dean Ayers & finacee’ Erica Bradley of Sandstone, Shelia Ayers of Princeton, Lisa Ayers of Sandstone, Sandra Ayers Newton & husband Justin of Altadena, CA and Wesley Feazell & wife Darlene of Virginia. Siblings, Acie Ayers & wife Phyllis of Sandstone, Mary (Libby) Ayers of Sandstone and Sulestine Ayers Atkinson & husband James of Bellwood. Grandchildren, Carson Ayers Newton, Ethan Chase Ayers and Gracie Feazell.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday May 16, 2015 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor James Atkinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Egnor Cemetery on Swell Moutain near Sandstone. Friends may call from 7:00 p.m.until 9:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to either Main Street Care Nursing Home, PO Box 7, Hinton, WV 25951 or Bowers Hospice House, PO Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802.1

Julia Edna Ayers, 88 of Burton, Michigan formerly of Sandstone, died Thursday Feb. 4, 2021 at home following a long illness.

Born June 4, 1932 at Sandstone, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Russell, Sr. and Nannie Gunter Vandall.

Ms. Ayers was a homemaker. She loved landscaping and gardening, garage sales, craft shows, birds, especially cardinals, going out for an A&W hotdog or eating at Bob Evans. Her biggest joy in life was spending time with all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Wesley Ayers; four brothers, Harvey Jr., Charles, Thomas and Delbert Vandall.

Survivors include four daughters, Margie Grondin & husband Paul, Sharon Kirt & husband Ken, Libby Trovillion & husband Don and Regina Ayers; four sisters, JoAnn Burdette, Mary Vandall, Linda Carol Ward and Judy Hartwell; grandchildren, Julie Mize, Shawn Grondin, Aaron Grondin, Carrie Snell, Christopher Snell, Heather Brewer, Jacob Trovillion, Jason Trovillion, Jeremy Trovillion, Alexander Havermale, Mikayla Havermale, Jennifer Beck, Isaiah Ayers, Quentin Ayers, Johnathan Ayers, Michael Ayers and Matthew Ayers; 30 great grandchildren also survive.

Graveside services and burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday Feb. 11, 2021 at the Fink Cemetery at Sandstone with Pastor Benny Allen officiating. There will be no public visitation.2
