Linda Sue Burdette, 69, of Meadow Bridge, passed away at home Saturday, November 1, 2014.

Born December 4, 1944 at Meadow Bridge, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Gladys Spade Burdette.

Linda was a faithful member of the Meadow Bridge Missionary Baptist Church. She worked for the former Valley Flowers in Rainelle. She was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing and reminiscing while looking at photographs of her family.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by 5 brothers Clifford, Merrill, Ross, Major and Robert Burdette and 4 sisters Alma Burdette, Katheryn Holliday, Ruby Holliday and Mona Burdette.

Survivors include 3 sisters Lucille Burdette and husband Clarence of Meadow Bridge, Crete Campbell of Rainelle and Maxine Rhodes of Meadow Bridge; her nephew J.W. Rhodes and her niece Christy Sloan and husband Jason and their children Casey and Zach Sloan; many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews; and a special lifelong friend Delphia Fitzwater.

The family would like to thank Dr. David Allen, his staff and those with hospice for the care given to Linda.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 3, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Inc., with Pastor Brandon Haskett and Brother William Howard Gwinn officiating. Burial will follow in the Patton Memorial Cemetery at Meadow Bridge.

Friends may call one hour before the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.1

RAINELLE — Lucretia "Crete" Louise Burdette Campbell, 83, of Rainelle, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, December 20, 2015. Born July 26, 1932, at Meadow Bridge, W.Va., on the Burdette Family Farm, she was the 7th of 18 children born to the late Benjamin "Frank" Franklin and Emma Gladys Spade Burdette. Crete was a precious daughter, sister, loving wife, devoted mother, mother-in-law, aunt, a doting grandmother, proud great-grandmother, and friend. She was a wonderful homemaker, worked at Brown’s Hotel as a cook, lovingly cared for the Howard and Nellie Gray family as their nanny, cook, and housekeeper, and was a retired school cook at East Rainelle Elementary School and Rainelle Elementary and Junior High School for many years where students lovingly referred to her as Grandma Crete, and she was well-known for her homemade rolls. Crete was an active member of the Rainelle First Baptist Church for over 55 years where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Guild Girls, and was a member of the American Baptist Women and Ray Neal Christonian Sunday School Class. Growing up she loved attending services with her sisters at many church denominations in Meadow Bridge. As a resident of McRoss, she was a member of the McRoss Baptist Church. From the early 1960’s thru 1989, she supported all her daughters’ activities by participating as a Girl Scout Leader, PTA officer at East Rainelle Elementary School, and as a Band/Music Booster at Rainelle Junior High School and Greenbrier West High School. She never met a stranger and welcomed everyone with a big smile. Crete was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Ray Dee Campbell; a grandson, Jason Brett Sammons, and a great-grandson, Daniel Drexel Meadows. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Clifford, Merrill, Ross, Major, Robert, Edward, twins James and John Burdette; and her sisters Alma Burdette, Lucille Burdette, Katherine Holliday, Ruby Holliday, Mona Burdette, Linda Sue Burdette, and twins Jewell and June Burdette. Those left to cherish her memory are her 3 devoted daughters: Lucretia Ann Sammons and husband Drexel of Beckley, W.Va; Donna Rae Manning and husband Brian of Fayetteville, N.C; Marsha Dea Burke and husband Paul of Rainelle, W.Va; four Grandchildren: Amanda Meadows and husband Kurt, Sara Beth Osborne and husband Matt, Jacob Burke, and Rebekah Burke; two great-grandchildren: Isaac and Emma Meadows; Sister Maxine Rhodes of Meadow Bridge, W.Va; Sister-in-law Remona Snedegar of Plano, Texas; Brothers-in-law Pete Holliday of Crichton, W.Va. and Clarence Burdette of Meadow Bridge, W.Va; many nieces and nephews and a host of dear friends. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at Wallace and Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with pastors Dana Gatewood and Eric Keister officiating. She will join her beloved husband in eternal rest at Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville, W.Va. Family and friends may visit and share their memories of Crete at Wallace and Wallace Chapel on Tuesday evening, December 22, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. Pallbearers are Drexel Sammons, Brian Manning, Paul Burke, Jacob Burke, Kurt Meadows, and Matt Osborne.
