John Burdette, born May 29th, 1795, died May 10th, 1882.

Lydia Curry born Sept. 30th, 1796, died May 17th, 1884.

They were married in Augusta County, VA, Aug 15th, 1816. They settled among the wilds of Second Creek on the Greenbrier and Monroe line and worshipped at the old Lebanon (A. R. Presbyterian) church in Monroe County, near Monitor, although they were members of the Mossy Creek Presbyterian church in Augusta County, VA. They lived a long and happy life together and died peacefully in their old family home at Second Creek. They reared a family of ten children, 5 boys and 5 girls, 6 of whom have passed beyond-3 boys and 3 girls. The boys were Robert C, Harvey J and Uno C. The girls were-Madames Sallie Ann Nickall, Elizabeth J. Young and Mary Crawford - leaving 4 - 2 boys and 2 girls. The boys left are Franklin C. of St. Louis, MO and Calvin K. of Ronceverte W. VA. The girls are Mrs. Lydia S. Wickline of Columbus, Ohio and Mrs. E. F. Patton of WV.

The remaining four spent the day at their brother Calvin H. Burdette's home in Ronceverte on Friday, Sept. 2nd, 1910, in a pleasantly and possibly last reunion, spiritually commenting as it were with sacred head of the six brothers and sisters passed away unto the great unknown, also realizing that the time of their departure is near at hand.

The desendants of this old and honored couple are legion and are scattered the wide world over, many of whom will be remembered by other friends from the following.

Sallie Ann, born May 29, 1817 married James M. Nickell on May 29, 1833 and died June 27, 1895. Born of this union and now living are: Mrs Marietta Hutcheson and Rebecca Lee and Chas C. Nickell of Monroe County. Jas M Nickell of Hannibal, MO, J Hunter Nickell of Clifton Forge, VA and Harvey A. Nickell of Ozark, AK.

Mary, born Feb. 28, 1824, married James Crawford June 17, 1840, died July 6, 1894. Remaining of this family is one daughter, Miss Rebecca A. Crawford of Organ Cave, Greenbrier county.

Elizabeth Jane, born Nov. 28, 1837, married Andrew F. Young on May 29, 1855 and died Feb. 25, 1875. leaving children as follows" John Young of Staunton, VA, Frank Hugh and James Young of Knoxville, TN. Mrs Rebecca Harrif of Craigsville, VA.

Rebecca M. of Ronceverte, W.VA, born March 24, 1837, married E. F. Patton October 13, 1853. They have one son S. R. Patton of Ronceverte, W VA.

Lydia Susan of Columbus, Ohio, born Nov 21, 1839, married A.T. Wickline (now deceased) Sept. 13, 1864. She had two sons, Ed. F Wickline of Columbus, Ohio and Woodville W. Wickline of Hinton, W VA and two daughters, Mrs. Lillie M. Smith of York City and Mrs Bessie Lawson of Clay County, W VA.

The boys were:

Robert C, born July 10, 1819, married Elizabeth B. Curry on December 1, 1842, died Feb. 17, 1893, leaving one son Frank of Loveland, CO, and two daughters Mrs. Susan J. Burdette and Rebecca M Bente, both of Colorado.

James Harvey, born Oct 10, 1821, married Rachel M. Christian of Starnton, VA, April 29, 1847, died Dec. 25, 1890. Of this union three daughtes survive, Mrs Bella Lambert and Miss Lelia Burdette of Staunton, VA and Mrs Mollie McClung of Greenbrier county.

John C, born July 31, 1827, married Mary A. Lynch, Oct 13, 1851, died Dec 10, 1901. They had 2 sons, J. Porter of White Sulphur Springs and H. Everette of Second Creek and 4 daughters, Misses Laura and Minnie of Second Creek, Mrs. H W Humphreys of Irish Corner and Mrs Dora Curry of Missouri.

Calvin H. of Ronceverte, born Oct 24, 1829, married Barbara A. Curry on Feb 8, 1849, she died July 10, 1869. One daughter, Mrs. Bettie Hall of Missouri and 3 sons, Samuel H. of Monroe County, Wm. T and E. Frank of Greenbrier. Calvin married a second time to M. Catherine Lewis on July 15, 1872, born of this union are Mrs Lona L. Kincaid and James N of Ronceverte and Lawrence of Missouri.

Franklin C. of St. Louis, Mo was born May 29, 1832, married Lizzie A. Ford on August 1858, she died Sept. 17, 1863 leaving two children, M. Rush Burdette of Lewisburg, W VA, and Mrs Mollie W. Martin of Memphis, TN. On January 11, 1871 , he again married Allie Smithwick of Memphis, TN, who died Feb, 1903 and is survived by one daughter, Julia of St. Louis, MO and two sons Alfred and Erskina of Missouri.

Burial* His body was interred at Organ Cave, Greenbrier Co, WV, at Salem Presbyterian Church.4
