| Biography* | George St. Clair Burdette, born 1830 in Monroe Co., WV married Octavia Kincaid in Meadow Bluff, Greenbrier Co., WV in 1840. Moved to Fayette Co., next to Grasslick, Jackson Co., WV in 1862, then to Roane Co., WV and settled on Upper Flats Forks, Poca, in Harper District. To St. Clair and Octavia were born nine children: The first five were born in Fayette Co., and the others were born in Jackson County. Named as follows: (1) Charles Lewis, (born 1854-died 1936) married 12 June 1874 Mary Jane Gandee (born 1856-died 1937), daughter of George W. and Mary (Westfall) Gandee. (George was the son of Uriah and Masse (Hughes) Gandee; (2) Mary Burdette, married Henderson Gandee (brother to Mary Jane Gandee); (3) Sarah Burdette, married Jonathan R. Reed of Flat Fork (M: 9 Oct. 1879-Roane Co.); (4) John Asher Burdette, died young; (5) Giles Newman Burdette, (born 1859) married Martha Ellen Hildreth (M: 5 Nov 1882 Roane Co.); (6) Martha J.
